Rome

Rome is the capital of Italy. It is very old and was once the most important city in the world. The ancient Romans had an advanced system of law and government. They built stone roads throughout the their empire and some houses even had a type of central heating.
 Rome is built on the River Tiber and is sometimes called the 'Eternal City' because of its long history. It is a very beautiful city with wonderful buildings, fountains and squares.
 Rome is said to have been founded by twins, Romulus and Remus, on seven hills: Palatine, Capitoline, Quirinal, Viminal, Esquiline, Caelian and Aventine.

 The ancient Romans were pagans, which means they had other religious beliefs as well as those of our religion. They worshipped gods such as Jupiter, Mars, and Venus. Most of the planets are named after Roman gods.
Rome became a Christian city during Emperor Constantine's rule.
